Marti Cate grew up getting lost in books of all kinds. She also loved to adventure into the natural world, hiking and backpacking and swimming in far-flung places. Once, she and friends built a palm-frond sleeping hut on a wild Mexican beach, only to be kept awake all night by crabs biting their toes.
Fascinated by color, texture, and composition, she has played with watercolor, photography, face painting, costuming, and collage. Her curiosity about storytelling stems from her lifelong love of languages and expressive movement. She lives near San Francisco, surrounded by an abundance of nature and creatures in the sea, the redwoods, and the rolling hills.
